Indo-Pacific Policy Dialogue on NATO and the Indo-Pacific - Evaluating Words versus Actions

For our November Indo-Pacific Dialogue Policy seminar, YCAPS was happy to invite Dr. Yoichiro Sato, Professor at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Dr. Barbara Kratiuk, Assistant Professor at Vistula University and YCAPS' own Dr. Stephen Nagy, Professor at International Christian University to speak on the topic of NATO's recent tilt towards engagement in the Indo-Pacific region. NATO's approach to partners in the region such as the Indo-Pacific Four (IP4) or ASEAN were discussed, in addition to other potential avenues and for furthering NATO presence in the region as well as limitations and potential pitfalls.

The session was held in-person at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University's Tokyo office and provided policymakers, scholars, and enthusiasts with a valuable opportunity to gain new and insightful perspectives on NATO's evolving relationship with the Indo-Pacific region. Throughout the sessions, the speakers engaged with the audience by taking a range of different questions and holding a back-and-forth discussion with audience members. The session was moderated by William Winberg, PhD student at International Christian University and YCAPS Indo-Pacific Dialogue intern.
