Sam Baron, YCAPS’ inaugural Policy Research Fellow, recently represented the organization at the Women’s Initiative for Sustainable Empowerment (WISE) program held from May 27-29 in Karuizawa, Nagano.

Organized by the Japan Institute of Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship (JSIE), and sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, this annual program assists emerging leaders and social innovators turn their business ideas into actionable and sustainable business plans that can help to promote innovation within the Japanese economy.

Participating in the event as a “supporter” of young entrepreneurs alongside professionals and academics from Goldman Sachs, the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), and Johns Hopkins SAIS, Mr. Baron provided advice to a number of young entrepreneurs from Japan and emerging economies such as Kenya and Bangladesh to better formulate their business ideas and create more resilient communities in Nagano Prefecture and across Japan.

By participating in the WISE program, Baron reflected the YCAPS mission to provide professional development opportunities to young professionals, strengthen the U.S.-Japan relationship, and bolster networks with like-minded partner organizations.
