Two YCAPS members recently finished the inaugural iteration of a brand new initiative sponsored by the America-Japan Society. Aptly named “The Next Generation's Roundtable”, the series of lectures and discussions were targeted toward Americans and Japanese under age 40. Spearheaded by former Japanese Ambassador to the United States, Ichiro Fujisaki, speakers, from a wide range of disciplines including Noh actresses, US Embassy staff, and NHK executives, presented a perceived dilemma in their respective fields and utilized the brainpower of their audience to fashion together creative solutions.
The discussions highlighted cultural differences between Americans and Japanese when it came to decision tree processes but also served as a springboard for the younger generation to utilize this dissimilarity as a strength rather than an obstacle. The second iteration of NGRT has just started and YCAPS continues to represent with one member returning and another new member joining.
