YCAPS was pleased to support a 23-25 April 2024 track 1.5 workshop, "Martime Security, The Indo-Pacific, and Advancing Maritime Domain Awareness."
Nearly 60 participants representing 14 countries took part in the event co-hosted in Jakarta by Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (Badan Riset Dan Inovasi Nasional – BRIN) and two U.S. government organizations: Near East South Asia (NESA) Center for Strategic Studies and the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS).
YCAPS supported the conference by organizing a maritime governance innovation video contest where young leaders from across the Indo-Pacific pitched their ideas. More than 20 of the video submissions can be viewed on the YCAPS Youtube channel.
YCAPS judges selected three individuals to come to Jakarta to present their ideas to a public audience on day 3 of the workshop. Those winners were:
- I Gusti Bagus Dharma Agastia – A Joint Civil-Government Maritime Forum
- Jada Frasier – Japan Should Join the Malaysia-Philippines-Indonesia Trilateral Cooperative Agreement
- Alex Min – Maritime Domain Reporting Software
Other YCAPS members who participated in the workshop included John Bradford (Executive Director), Jeff Payne (Senior Research Fellow), Scott Edwards (Free & Open Indo-Pacific Felllow) and Eric Ang (Maritime Security in Southeast Asia Fellow). These individuals chaired panels and gave expert presentations. The conference report can be downloaded here.
