Members of the USS Blue Rdge/7th Fleet YCAPS Afloat Chapter took advantage of a port visit to Jakarta to learn more about the region's maritime heritage. They started the day visiting the wooden penisi schooners berthed in the Sunda Kelepa harbor taking advantage of one of the members' Indonesian language skills to learn about the sailors' cargos, destinations and livelihoods. They then visited the Museum Bahari, a maritime museum housed in a warehouse that once served as part of the Dutch fortifications. From there they walked south along a colonial-era canal to see a surviving drawbridge and arrive at Fatahillah Square. Lunch was taken at the historic Café Batavia.
