YCAPS was pleased to support the NATO Maritime SecurityCenter from Excellence (MarSec COE) by providing three experts to lead seminar sessions during the MarSec COE’s inaugural Comprehensive Maritime Security Course. The course held on the MarSec COE’s campus inIstanbul the course ran from 4 to 15 Dec 2023. A total of 57 lecturers/SMEs/attendees from 13 Nations(Azerbaijan, Belgium, Greece, Mauritania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Senegal, Singapore, Spain, Türkiye, the United Kingdom and the USA).
During the first week, YCAPS Free & Open Indo-PacificFellow Dr Scott Edwards led seminars that examined the range of maritime security threats that are currently active around the NATO area of responsibility and globally. During thesecond week, YCAPS Advisor for Policy & Education Dr Annette Bradford taught about the role of cross-cultural communication in maritime security operations and YCAPS Executive Director John Bradford shared his experience with maritime security exercise planning. Annette and John also jointly presented the initial funding of theYCAPS-JITTRI study on best practices for maritime security capacity-building activities.
