On June 4, 2021, the YCAPS University Chapter hosted its second career development webinar, this time featuring Emily Ashby and Kelly Langley. Emily is a Presidential Management Fellow, currently on rotation with the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo’s Trade and Economic Affairs Unit. She is a Fulbright Scholar and graduate of Middlebury College, and has worked in both the private and public sectors. Kelly is Chief Digital Strategist at Langley Esquire, a Tokyo-based public affairs consulting firm. He is also Director of Public Relations at YCAPS, and frequently collaborates with the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan. Fluent in English and Japanese, Kelly is passionate about supporting the US-Japan relationship through advocacy and innovation. The panel was moderated by Elizabeth Gamarra, who serves as an advisor to the YCAPS University Chapter.
The speakers spoke about the importance of mentorship and building long-term relationships with key figures in your industry of choice. They also shared how they came to specialize in their areas, and discussed various ways to bring value to one's work. The webinar concluded with a Q&A session where students were able to ask questions about jumpstarting their careers in policy and international relations.
